LEICESTER SECURE EUROPEAN SEMI FINAL SPOT
After a tough 3 games in 3 days for Leicester's European squad in warm conditions, they secured their place in this years European Semi-final after beating German side Berliner 1-0 in the knock stage of the competition. Leicester kicked off their European campaign with a nervous 3-1 victory over Belgian side Royal Antwerp, Crista Cullen, Chloe Rogers and Beckie Herbert all finding the back of the net for Leicester. Leicester faced a tough match against the 10 times European Champions and hosts the following day, and after a poor 1st half put on a great 2nd half performance to be defeated by only 2 goals, losing 3-1, Cullen scoring from another Penalty Corner.
Leicester finished 2nd in the group, meaning a cross over match against Berliner, who topped their group. It was a close encounter, and Leicester did remarkably well to keep one of the world's best strikers, Germany's Natasha Keller quiet throughout. It was Lauren Turner who was Leicester's hero, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory for the Orange and Blacks.
Leicester have been drawn against fellow English side Slough in the Semi-final, venue yet to be confirmed. After an away victory in the league and a draw at home, Leicester are looking forward to the clash, which guarantees an English side in the Final of the European Cup.
Supported throughout the weekend by the Leicester Supporters Club, around 30 supporters, friends and family joined the squad out in Holland to encourage and cheer on the Leicester side, even producing song books to sing from the stands.
We thank everybody for their support and hope all and more can return for the finals weekend on June 10-11th to hopefully see Leicester bring back more success.
