Leicester City firsts started the league campaign with a 4-0 win over visitors Brooklands Poynton on Saturday 28 September 2019.
The team started strongly with a string of attacks against the Brooklands goal which were being repelled. The breakthrough goal came from Anna Faux, on debut for the club, who gave a fantastic performance all game, finishing well with many defenders around her. 1-0 became 2-0 as Alice Page found the ball at her feet after some scrambled defence from Brooklands, and she slammed the ball into the open goal.
Into the second half, Leicester needed to be wary of being hit on the counter-attack from the fast Brooklands attackers. The team were indebted to their goalkeeper, Caitlin Jefferies, as she ensured the team kept a clean sheet with a number of fantastic saves.
Nerves were then settled as Nikki Laybourne scored a brilliant goal from a short corner routine and celebrated to match! The final goal came from a strong run from Katie Long, who in turn passed to Anna Faux in the D. Anna, remaining calm and composed, moved the ball around the ‘keeper and hit her reverse shot high into the net.
Overall, a great start to the league, winning three points and claiming a 4-0 win.
