New Coach for Ladies Ones, welcome to Paul Hamnett

May 21, 2022

The club is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Hamnett as our new Ladies 1s coach. Paul has already started to plan for pre-season and get to know the players and I'm sure we will all look forward to meeting him and working with him.

In Paul's own words " I'm really excited to join Leicester City HC as the Ladies 1s Head Coach and cannot wait to start work with the squad. Being part of a club that has a great pedigree is a real honour and working with the squad and the committee was an opportunity I could not turn down. During the interview process I heard about the ambition to return to the topflight of English hockey and this met with my aspirations to coach there as well. I am aiming to return to the Premier division with this team within the next three years and will work hard to develop a group of players that can achieve this. It is my belief that we can build on the foundations that are in place to reach our destination and I know that the club are behind this objective. I am also keen to see the development of the player pathway and the club be able to grow their own and eventually challenge for 1st team places.

My hockey career within coaching, that began around 15 years ago has seen me coach at Lincoln, Brigg, Lindum, North Notts, Boots and Doncaster Hockey Clubs. I have also coached within the player pathway in both the North and Cambridgeshire. Outside of hockey, I currently work for a Charity called Switch Up that works with children and young people involved in gangs, drugs and criminality.

I cannot wait to get started and already looking forward to our first game of the season and between now and then we have plenty of hard work and also a lot of fun."

At this point the club would also like to give a huge thanks and show our appreciation for Joe Paul who stepped down at the end of the season after 4 years in this role. JP's dedication and work in the club has meant a great cohort of players is in place for Paul to start his journey with the club. We wish JP all the best with his playing career and look forward to seeing him soon.
