Introducing #TheAcademy

Re-launched in September 2017, our Junior Academy offers regular training sessions and organised competition for boys and girls aged 7 to 14. Open to all abilities and running from our home venue of St Margaret's Pastures Sports Centre in the heart of the city U8’s – U14’s are offered training every Sunday. U16-U18 Teams receive specific squad training by arrangement. Our First Team players and coaches from the club take an active involvement in the Junior Academy, assisting and running specific coaching sessions.

Our aim is to make Leicester Junior Academy the most exciting, successful and fun place for Junior and Age Group hockey in the area. Every boy and girl who wants to play hockey will be given the opportunity to do so at Leicester. With our wide variety of squads and training, there's something accessible to everyone, from total beginners to players with International Caps and National League players.

Highly skilled coaches from throughout the club will complement some of our brightest new coaching talent and ensure that all age groups and competition teams are able to tap into years of experience and hockey knowledge. Walking Hockey Players
Hockey for All

Walking Hockey

Our newest venture 3 years ago where we wanted to provide an option for beginners, former players or returners to the sport who weren't necessarily looking to get into league hockey immediately or at all. Our sessions are well attended and enjoyed by a wide range of players young and old, and although played at walking speed, they invariably put a lot of other players to shame!

Our walking hockey option gives an hour a week of coached drills, skills and game play and we have even arranged some fixtures. For more information or to find out when sessions are on, please email walkinghockey@leicesterhc.co.uk

Our schools programme

Launched in 2020 just before the pandemic our programme encompasses all nurseries, primary and secondary schools across the county. Various funding streams have allowed us to offer all non-private schools working with us for the first time to access up to 6 weeks of free hockey either in curriculum time or as an after school club. Subsequent sessions can be offered at a discounted rate to the school.  We also have a day offer and a CPD offer for schools looking to expand their hockey knowledge and deliver to their own students. For more information, please email communitycoach@leicesterhc.co.uk

After their course of hockey, players are invited for further sessions to our academy at St Margarets where they can continue to meet new players, make new friends and play the sport.

Joining our Club

To join and be part of Leicester Hockey Club, there are a few things you need to know before you sign up. This also forms our main terms and conditions for membership:

A Hockey stick and ball on a grass field
Our membership runs over the course of a hockey season whilst we are running training sessions, matches and club events. This is generally an eight or nine month period (Aug-Mar/April). We voted at our AGM in May 2017 and agreed that as of season 2017-18 onwards we would no longer charge a match fee and instead charge a combined fee with annual subscription that can either be made as a one off payment or as a seven month subscription payment. This means all members must be signed up, registered and have confirmed their payment arrangements before the first league game.
We offer a subscription membership to cover the season and as a member you need to make sure you maintain these payments, otherwise we reserve the right to cancel your membership. Our membership is excellent value for money but please remember that if you cannot attend a specific session, we do not get any sort of rebate or refund for our fixed costs so we sadly cannot pass that on.

We endeavour to run training every week, however weather conditions may affect the condition of the all weather pitch and we may need to cancel training to ensure player safety. We commit to putting out teams for every fixture we have arranged either through leagues, cups or friendlies. Before you join, please consider this and make sure you are available to play and train the majority of dates that your membership will cover, otherwise you may not get as much value for money.

We try to manage the selection of players carefully and work with our players, however some players are asked to play in different squads from time to time. Unless you have previously told us of unavailability at various points during a match day, we expect that you will play in the squads you are selected for.

All members (not including ladies 1s) need to buy a susidised shirt (available when you join), black and white club socks and club shorts/skort from our kit shop. We have a variety of other leisure and training wear available, but we only ask that you buy a shirt, shorts/skort, a pair of black socks and a pair of white socks (for away kit). Our club colours are black and white so we ask that all our members adhere to this where possible. Shirts are heavily subsidised for new members to enable them to get best value and you get a unique number assigned to you.

As a club we don't want financial constraints or hardship to be an issue so we ask members to get in touch if they would like a confidential conversation with our treasurer. We have lots of paid opportunities for players who may also be interested in coaching, umpiring and helping out in the club.

Finally we like to take pictures and show our hockey and events off to the world. If you would rather we didn't include your pictures or your child's, in our social media, please email secretary@leicesterhc.co.uk to let us know.
