Introducing #TheAcademy
Back at Home!
The Academy returned to its home in September 2023 following the installation of our Olympic standard water-based pitch at St Margaret's Pastures Sport Centre. The aim of our academy is to enable any member to reach their potential. Whether that be just casual training and playing, to wanting to reach the highest possible levels available at their age and have fun doing so.
Our Academy offers the opportunity for girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 13 to train and play hockey every Sunday morning from 10am to 11.30am at St Margaret's Pastures. Our sessions are open to all abilities of players, we have 3 working groups: Origins, Discovery and Evolution. These groups are split, based on a combination of age and ability so that each child has the best opportunity to develop their hockey.
We enter age group-based sides into some England Hockey fixtures and competitions alongside our training sessions at various age groups. All of these fixtures are on Sundays. We have a dedicated team of experienced and newly qualified coaches to deliver our hockey programme, each coach has bee nDBS certified and the club has recently, in July, had its England Hockey “ClubMark” award renewed following a successful review period.
Whilst the players are making use of the high-quality pitch and coaching available parents can use the facilities at St Margaret's, with a range of warm and cold refreshments available in the pavilion.
We also welcome any parent help where possible, looking for team managers, umpires or helpers at the training sessions. Please get in touch if this is something that you can help with.
When it comes to moving on from the academy, we make sure that players and parents know exactly what further opportunities the club has to offer. Moving into the adult sides to play Saturday hockey or just continuing to play age group hockey. We can also assist players and parents with information on County level, TA level hockey and beyond.
under 13's
Players under 13 who are not yet eligible for Saturday club league matches, have a regular weekly programme of training and competition which is published and sent out once confirmed.
over 13's
Players over 13 and under 18 automatically have academy membership as part of their package.
For any further information or to sign up your child please email jamie.cooper@leicesterhc.co.uk.
Session Times for Training U8-U10-U12-U14 - Sundays 10am-11.30am at St Margaret's Pastures LE1 3EA. Matches and competition times may vary and the team managers and coaches will update you as these are published.

Walking Hockey
Our newest section turns 4 years old! We wanted to provide an option for beginners, former players or returners to the sport who weren't necessarily looking to get into league hockey immediately or at all. Our sessions are well attended and enjoyed by a wide range of players young and old, and although played at walking speed, they invariably put a lot of other players to shame!
Our walking hockey option gives an hour a week of coached drills, skills and game play and we have even arranged some fixtures. For more information or to find out when sessions are on, please email walkinghockey@leicesterhc.co.uk
Our schools programme
Launched in 2020 just before the pandemic our programme encompasses all nurseries, primary and secondary schools across the county. Subject to various funding streams, we can offer all non-private schools working with us for the first time access to 6 weeks of free hockey either in curriculum time or as an after school club. Subsequent sessions can be offered at a discounted rate to the school. We also have a day offer and a CPD offer for schools looking to expand their hockey knowledge and deliver to their own students. For more information, please email communitycoach@leicesterhc.co.uk
After their course of hockey, players are invited for further sessions to our academy at St Margarets where they can continue to meet new players, make new friends and play the sport.

Joining our Club
To join and be part of Leicester Hockey Club, there are a few things you need to know before you sign up. This also forms our main terms and conditions for membership:

We endeavour to run training every week, however weather conditions may affect the condition of the all weather pitch and we may need to cancel training to ensure player safety. We commit to putting out teams for every fixture we have arranged either through leagues, cups or friendlies. Before you join, please consider this and make sure you are available to play and train the majority of dates that your membership will cover, otherwise you may not get as much value for money.
We try to manage the selection of players carefully and work with our players, however some players are asked to play in different squads from time to time. Unless you have previously told us of unavailability at various points during a match day, we expect that you will play in the squads you are selected for.
All members (not including ladies 1s) need to buy a subsidised shirt (available when you join), black and white club socks and club shorts/skort from our kit shop. We have a variety of other leisure and training wear available, but we only ask that you buy a shirt, shorts/skort, a pair of black socks and a pair of white socks (for away kit). Our club colours are black and white so we ask that all our members adhere to this where possible. Shirts are heavily subsidised for new members to enable them to get best value and you get a unique number assigned to you.
As a club we don't want financial constraints or hardship to be an issue so we ask members to get in touch if they would like a confidential conversation with our treasurer. We have lots of paid opportunities for players who may also be interested in coaching, umpiring and helping out in the club.
Finally we like to take pictures and show our hockey and events off to the world. If you would rather we didn't include your pictures or your child's, in our social media, please email secretary@leicesterhc.co.uk to let us know.
Become a coach
Ever thought about being a coach or getting involved to help the club or support your subs? We have a variety of positions in the club that allow you to develop, grow and support you on your coaching journey.
We are happy to support the costs of coaching qualifications and courses in return for a commitment towards the club. This commitment may then provide the necessary experience to enable you to undertake further roles and even apply for specific jobs with additional benefits and allowances within our structure.
All coaches must have a valid DBS check, do a first aid course and do the online safeguarding courses from England Hockey.
For more information on the courses available, please visit the hockey hub and for further information on the opportunities and vacancies within the club, please contact sarah.treanor@leicesterhc.co.uk

Become an umpire
Our sport cannot operate without the goodwill and support of Umpires, and we recognise that as a club our umpires are one of our most valuable assets. If you are a club umpire for Leicester City, you can expect free parking for the time you are helping us out, £20 expenses towards your support of the game, hot and cold drinks during your time at SMP umpiring and post match teas to say thank you for your help.Playing members who also umpire can discuss expenses or offset against their subs and we are very happy to support members and our club umpires with additional courses, further assessment and a bit of club kit to help keep them warm when they are out on the pitch! For more information please contact umpires@leicesterhc.co.uk
Please join us as an associate member and we will add you to our mailing list and keep you updated.
