New Partnership With South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership

March 18, 2022

**We're delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with South Leicestershire Schools Partnership (SLSSP), which will see the club deliver a range of hockey workshops to both primary and secondary schools across the region.**

The partnership with SLSSP will officially commence in the new school term in September 2021. The programme will further strengthen Leicester City Hockey Club’s efforts to build upon their existing community links, whilst also providing a clear pathway for the club to demonstrate the accessibility of hockey to a new generation.

Jon Griffiths, SLSSP School Games Organiser said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leicester Hockey Club to offer new and exciting opportunities for young people across South Leicestershire. Leicester City Hockey Club and SLSSP share the same passion for improving young people's sporting & physical activity opportunities in both a school and community setting, this is what makes this new partnership so exciting’.

As part of the new alliance, Leicester City Hockey Club will deliver a programme featuring six weeks of hockey skills, drills and friendly matches to nominated schools, which will be supplied by a qualified and DBS checked coach. Any participants who wish to continue their hockey journey after this date are invited to attend some free sessions at the club at a later date. These extra club sessions are open to all ages and are a great way to get involved with the sport on a regular basis.

A full list of participating schools will be announced shortly, please keep checking the Leicester City Hockey Club and SLSSP social media channels for further updates.

The South Leicestershire Schools Sports Partnership supports education professionals and provides opportunities at eighty-three schools across the region. This helps to ensure that regular wellbeing support, physical activity and sporting opportunities are available to all in a school setting regardless of circumstance or ability. The addition of Leicester City Hockey Club’s coaching will provide a valuable addition to their impressive work across the region.

Leicester City Hockey Club are proud of the fun, inclusive and supportive environment present throughout the club. The club currently has a flourishing junior section, as well five Ladies teams and three Men’s teams. This growth in numbers was made possible by the clubs move to St Margaret’s Pastures, which Leicester City Hockey Club now owns and operates.

Leicester City Hockey Club also provide an opportunity for parents and carers to get involved with the sport at their walking hockey sessions, which take place on Thursdays from 7-8pm at St Margaret’s Pastures. These training sessions are a great way to build fitness and also make friends, they also provide an opportunity to work on building some core hockey skills in a relaxed atmosphere.

The club also had their ClubMark (ClubsFirst) Accreditation renewed recently, which is awarded by England Hockey. This means that Leicester City Hockey Club is officially recognised as operating and promoting a ‘safe, effective and child friendly’ club environment. To achieve this award, clubs have to ensure that they have appropriate safeguarding procedures and paperwork in place, such as making sure everyone directly involved with younger players have attended courses and are DBS checked.
